Aug 29 - Write about a time when you did something out of the norm. What was it and how did others react?

Response: A time when I acted outside of the "norm" was when I decided to repeat Junior year. While at St. Pius X (my old school), I had failed all of my classes due to attendance, poor grades/performance, sickness, and especially mental health. I was told that I would have to transfer to Lakeside High School in January 2024 in order to continue my high school education. I would lose all of my teachers, classes, friends, and everything I had at that school, all because of my weak mental state. When I got to Lakeside, I had an opportunity to graduate on time with my class grade, but in order to do that, I would have to do double core classes and some over the summer too. I decided to put my best interests in mind and decided to take another year to finish my education. When I tell most people about this story, everyone makes the usual jokes that I'm a "13th grader" or a "super senior/super junior," which I'm used to now. The idea of someone taking another year to finish high school seems so taboo to most people in this day and age, especially to other high schoolers that I talk to. If I'm being totally honest, though, I have no regrets about taking an extra year to graduate. I wasn't ready to go to college or move on with my life, and really wanted to feel like I finished high school all the way. I think I made the right decision, even if it was out of the "norm," because I'm a lot happier now and have lots of friends.

Summary: Today, we read and analyzed the poem "I'm nobody, who are you?"

Reflection: All of us are "somebody" in life. No one will ever be a "nobody" because we all have something special about us, whether it's a tragic backstory, an uprising, or maybe just a cool party trick they can do. Everyone is a somebody, which is what it means to be human.

Their relationship slowly shifts from fear and dominance to honesty and distance. Write about a relationship in your life that changed over time as you grew older or more aware. What made the dynamic shift, and how did your understanding of that person evolve?

Nov 19 - As Celie’s world expands in these letters, she begins noticing new things about the people in her life. Write about a moment when you suddenly noticed something funny, shocking, or unexpected about someone you see every day (a family member, a classmate, or even a teacher). How did that new discovery change the way you saw them?
