Nov 12 - Celie tells Harpo to “beat” Sofia because she believes that’s how men control women, but this advice causes pain and conflict. Think about a time when someone gave you advice that sounded right at first but ended up being wrong. How did it affect your situation or relationships? What lesson did you learn about thinking for yourself?

Response: I remember in my 2023 Junior year that I came to my dad for advice on talking to a girl. My mom always tells me the legend of "Captain save a h*e", which was a nickname my mom and her friends came up with for him because he is always trying to save a woman from a tough situation in order to get with her. And although this nickname is pretty crazy, my dad definitely knows how to get a woman's attention. I asked for his help on getting a girl to notice and talk to me more often, and his advice did work at first, but eventually it backfired on me. I can barely remember what his advice was because that time of my life was so traumatic, but let's just say that it did not end well for me. His advice was the beginning of a domino effect that led me to getting my heartbroken, and taught me that I should probably get my advice on girls from anyone else except my dad.

Summary: Today, we worked on our video project.

Reflection: When it comes to getting advice, we should always find a second opinion.

Their relationship slowly shifts from fear and dominance to honesty and distance. Write about a relationship in your life that changed over time as you grew older or more aware. What made the dynamic shift, and how did your understanding of that person evolve?

Nov 19 - As Celie’s world expands in these letters, she begins noticing new things about the people in her life. Write about a moment when you suddenly noticed something funny, shocking, or unexpected about someone you see every day (a family member, a classmate, or even a teacher). How did that new discovery change the way you saw them?
