Oct 28 - Before the Civil War, most people saw nothing wrong with children working long hours. Over time, people began to see it as unfair and even cruel. What is something that society once accepted but now sees as wrong, or something we still accept today that might be viewed as wrong in the future? Explain your reasoning.
Response: Society used to accept the idea that something as simple as interracial marriage should be illegal. Our society is constantly changing and growing to become united, even if it doesn't seem like it. It was only around 10 years ago that gay marriage was legalized in the United States. Even just hearing that statement baffles me to think that it took our society that long to make something as simple as same sex marriage legal. If you look far enough, you'll find that society used to accept even more cruel and unfair ways of living. Just like how chimney sweepers were looked at like it were a normal and acceptable thing, our society is most likely accepting something that is also cruel and immoral.
Summary: Today, we analyzed The Chimney Sweeper.
Reflection: Child labor has luckily been outlawed for 85 years now, but it's possible that today's society is accepting something just as cruel without a second thought.
