Feb 6 - What is the best piece of advice of that your parent or guardian has given you? Tell what the advice was and what prompted you to ask the question.

Response: The best piece of advice my mom gave me was when I recently was talking to her about god. My mom and her family are Catholic, and that's how I was raised as well. When I was at Pius, specifically during my Confirmation classes, I would say that was the closest that I have ever been to God in my life. I was doing everything right by the Catholic standards, but this was also one of the worst times of my life too. I kept wondering why it seemed that my life only seemed to get worse even though I was doing everything right by God's standards. Now, jumping to the present, I am the happiest that I could ever be in my life. I still struggle with mental health at times, but I actually know what it is that I am feeling finally. This time of my life can be described in one word, Love. Everything in my life is just filled with love. I can also finally say that I love myself. However, my relationship with God has dwindled over the years, and I've stopped doing the things I used to do everyday.

I kept thinking about this constantly, and eventually asked my mom, "I was so close with God back then, but I hated everything about myself and life just couldn't seem to get better. Right now, I love the person that I have become after all these years, but I rarely talk to God anymore. Is it wrong to feel happy for myself, or should I feel guilty for it?" My mom reassured me and said that loving yourself is what it means to be closer to God, since all of us are his creation. God created all of us with the love of his heart, and if we love who we are and how we were made, then that's also loving God too. I think hearing this from my mom helped me a lot.

Summary: Today, we worked on our Interactive Oral.

Reflection: Your parents are probably the best people to get advice from, since they have gone through the same stages that you are going through in your life.
