April 15 - Why do you think filmmakers continue to use stereotypes, even when they can be harmful or inaccurate? Explain one reason discussed in class and give your opinion on whether this justifies their use.

Response: Filmmakers will still use stereotypes in their media for many reasons. One popular reason is if the film is a comedy movie. In comedies, stereotypes are sometimes essential for certain characters or jokes because the whole point of the film is to make people laugh, even if it is offensive. Of course, this doesn’t justify the use of harmful stereotypes. In a comedy movie, there are other ways to produce comedic jokes to an audience without using stereotypes that may offend people. However, the audience and marketing teams can cause pressure to use these stereotypes to maximize the movies output. This is why in some films stereotypes are still being used today.

Summary: Today, we did a CommonLit assignment.

Reflection: No matter what, there will always be some stereotypes in films. However as time goes on, those stereotypes will appear less and less.

Response: My mother tells me this story every year on my birthday and cries without fail every time. I was born on May 10th, 2007, at Gwinnett Hospital around 1:00 pm. Sep 3 - Think about a moment when you challenged your parent(s)’ rules or expectations. How did you feel, and what was the outcome?

Response: The first thing I will say is that neither of my parents are strict in the slightest. I don't know any other kid who has this amount of freedom, but also love from their parents like my sister and I do. I'm allowed to stay out late (most days), I can have my girlfriend over whenever and wherever I want, I have free use of the car at all times, and ever since I turned 10, I have never had a bedtime. They're the type of parents to let me do as I please, as long as I am doing good in school and can stay responsible with the amount of freedom they give me. Discuss a moment in your own life when something you believed in turned out to be different than what you imagined. How did this realization shape your identity or worldview?

Response: A recent phone call made me realize that he will always be the same, no matter how much time passes. For the longest time, it felt like I was just interacting and talking with him out of pity, or so he wouldn't get mad that I wasn't talking to him. It had felt like I was finally getting him on the right path in life by having our relationship grow and heal, but it's clear to me now that he will still be the same man I've always known. The message of this whole story is more important than the details, but we had gotten into an argument about when my sister and I were going over to see him, and it was clear that he was having trouble understanding that we couldn't see him for a while because of all our events here (he lives an hour away in Dallas, GA).
